Mater it Matters

It is important all members are aware of changes proposed to the Mater Hospital SMO Agreement.

Long Service Leave

 

Senior Medical Officers may take leave on a pro rata basis after seven (7) years of continuous service but are only entitled to payment in lieu of leave on termination after ten (10) years of continuous service.

 

Senior Medical Officers may take leave after ten (10) years of continuous service and are also entitled to payment in lieu of leave on termination after ten (10) years of continuous service.

 

All employees of Queensland Health are entitled to take pro rata long service leave on full pay, or half pay, after completing seven (7) years of continuous service.


Public Holidays

 

All work done by a Senior Medical Officer on Easter Saturday and Show Day will be paid at the rate of double time and a half the ordinary rate. All Senior Medical Officers (other than casual employees) will be entitled to be paid a full day’s wage for Labour Day, regardless of whether or not they would ordinarily be required to work on a day when Labour Day falls.

 

All work done by a Medical Officer on Easter Saturday and Christmas Day will be paid at the rate of double time and a half the ordinary rate.

A Medical Officer will only be paid for Labour Day if they would ordinarily be required to work on the day when Labour Day falls.

 

All time worked on a public holiday will attract a loading of 116% in addition to the Medical Officers ordinary rate.

Where a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday for the majority of the shift, the higher rate payable applies.


Paid Parental Leave

 

12 weeks paid maternity leave

Personal Leave (sick Leave)

 

An application for personal leave of more than three (3) days must be supported by a medical certificate or other acceptable evidence.

 

An application for personal leave of more than two (2) days must be supported by a medical certificate or other acceptable evidence.

 

An application for sick leave of more than three (3) days is to be supported by a medical certificate or any other evidence that is acceptable to the employer.


SMO Consultation Provision

 

Mater is committed to consulting medical officers and their nominated union representatives when Mater decides to introduce major change.

 

The SMO will need to nominate the union as their representative.

 

Automatic union consultation underpinned by their union encouragement policy.


Policies

 

Mater can only change policies that are not incorporated under the Agreement.

 

Mater can change all policies and procedures without consultation.

 

Preserved policies listed in the agreement cannot be changed.
